Joe Monastero thrives on his passion for the hospitality industry.  As LHBE’s Director of Global Marketing and Business Development, Joe works with the Vice-President of Global Solutions to create innovative solutions for corporate, government, and organizational clients, and ensures that clients’ goals are embedded in the creation of those products and services.

Growing-up immersed in the operations of his family’s 52-year old business, Monastero’s Ristorante & Private Dining, Joe has worked in all areas of the business and became General Manager in 2001.  His successes can be attributed to his work ethic, keen analytical skills, creativity and ability to assess problems and create solutions in real time.

Joe launched Joseph S. Monastero Private Events in 2005, a boutique event-planning firm customizing unique events for upscale clientele, orchestrating social and corporate events around the world, including a wedding set on a national reality television show. He donated his services & personally designed, planned and executed the 2007 Out & Open Gala to inaugurate the new Center on Halsted, Chicago’s first LGBT Community Center.  The event raised over $1.5 million to create the Center’s endowment.

In 2008, he turned his attention to Monastero’s kitchen, succeeding his father as Executive Chef, developing new recipes that honor his rich family tradition, but keeping their kitchen young and fresh.  Having been in the kitchen since his head could see over the counter, Joe learned the family’s generations-old culinary traditions at the side of his aunt and father; the culinary geniuses behind the family business. Joe represents the restaurant at various public appearances including interviews and culinary demonstrations on local news channels and as a guest chef on a syndicated cooking shows.

In 2010, he joined Kendall College as Operations Manager of the Events Catering Department and as an Contributing Chef Instructor for the School of Culinary Arts. Complementing his continued role as Executive Chef of Monastero’s, Kendall provided Joe an outlet to engage the next generation of culinary and hospitality professionals, passing on his knowledge and extensive experience in restaurants, catering and event planning. In April 2012, Joe was promoted to Director of Food & Beverage Event Operations, overseeing the College’s ancillary revenue programs.

Since 2013 when Joe assumed the role of Director of Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships, and later as Director of Strategy and Global Development, Joe has worked with Kendall’s President to create new opportunities for students and bring together industry partners to enhance the school and its educational experiences.  As a member of the senior leadership team, Joe focuses on ‘getting things done’, working to bring in new opportunities for the long-term growth and continued enrichment of Kendall College and the education it provides to its students. 

Joe is currently Chairman of the board the Catering Executives Club of America after serving two terms as President, is the Treasurer of the Bel Canto Foundation for Young Opera Singers, and is a member of Les Amis d’ Escoffier Society of Chicago.

​​Joe holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Loyola University Chicago with majors in both Marketing and International Business, and is pursuing his Executive MBA in Global Leadership at Walden University.
